Biography

My interest in sculpture and drawing began early as a child. My father was a lover of
nature and imparted that beautiful attitude of life to his daughters early in their lives.
When I was ten I would use my play clay to do portraits of friends or neighbors or sketch
classmates. Instruction in the basics of sculpture was not available in the area where I

grew up. For this reason, my interest in sculpture went mostly undeveloped until  my

twenties. At that time I was able to take some newly offered sculpture courses  at local

colleges. However, I spent the next few years raising a family and did not actively pursue

my love of sculpture. Eventually I discovered The Loveland Academy of Fine Arts in

Loveland, Colorado and attended several workshops led by artists that I had grown

to admire. Artists such as Lincoln Fox, Forest Hart, Rosalind Cook, David Turner,
Eugene Daub, Martine Vaugel and Patti Stajar. It opened a whole new world for me in my
development as an artist. I am presently entering shows, receiving an occasional award,
selling my work and studying "the nature of nature". My work up to that time had primarily
been human portraits and figures. But on receiving a commission to do a wildlife piece, I
began to study animal anatomy and observe wildlife more intensely. I had always loved
the outdoors, the mountains and enjoyed watching animals interact in their environments
in the unique ways their body language relates to each of them. Getting to know each
different species of wildlife and their own particular expressive behavior has been one of
my greatest enjoyments. My greatest form of entertainment is being in the mountains
observing the different types of wildlife there.

My goal as a sculptress is to achieve a style that expresses the essence, personality

and temperament of the subject whether it is human or animal. I desire to capture the

nature of the subjects behavior so completely that the viewer instantly understands and

is able to relate to the piece. I especially enjoy the little subtle movements or gestures

that say more than we may consciously realize. It is my hope that people walk away from

viewing one of my  sculptures understanding everything about the subjects temperament

and mood.

I do animal sculpture, wildlife sculpture, avian sculpture, african wildlife, children,

figurative, portraits and will also do commission work.  I work with the intention

of my pieces becoming bronze sculptures.

I have been in the Midland Arts Association's 2006 Spring Juried Show where I

won first place for "The Young Patriarch".  I had previously won an honorable

mention award for "the batboy" in one of their fall shows.  I participated in the 2006

Loveland Sculpture Invitational Show and Sale sponsored by the Loveland

Sculpture Group in Loveland, Colorado.  I had a piece accepted in the 2008

Hill Country Arts Foundation Regional Juried Exhibition.  I was accepted into

the Rio Brazos Art Exhibition's 13th Annual Juried Exhibition in 2009.

I am an Associate Member of the National Sculpture Society and I

currently serve as a director on the board of the Midland Arts Association.
